Mycle Wastman show, benefiting Children's Hospital

We had a lot of fun last night.  We attended a cd release party for Mycle Wastman along with other local artists.  Proceeds went to Children's Hospital.  It was an amazing time, supporting local artists (who btw, are very talented) and a great cause.  Mycle's style of music is "eclectic soul" - which from my interpretation is a medley of soul, R&B, blues, and pop rock.  They had a full band ensemble (from guitars, drums, back-up vocals, sax, and him on lead).  If you're like me, a good live performance makes the show, creating such a melodic beautiful sound.

How I even heard about Wastman was one of my college buddies and guitar/piano instructor (Ryan Smith), plays keyboard.....let me take that back, jams on the keyboard.  He is smooth, soulful, and really gets into his performance.  They call him "white chocolate"....Smile

There were several artists that seem to be part of an up and coming community of talented artists that love to play and take what they do to the next level.  This was a great event to create the stage for them.  They played in the Benaroya Hall, which is an amazing venue - primarily used for symphony, orchestra shows.

    Have a great weekend!

    Beautiful Seattle

It's really easy to take Seattle for granted.  We live in this beautiful city and we love to go on drives, exploring and acting like tourists in our own backyard.  For instance, today we went to Sunset Hills (Ballard) and the scene never gets old (see attached pic).  Sure it was a cloudy day, but just look at that view!

For those of you who think it rains so much in Seattle, check out this article - we are not even on the Top 10 for wettest US cities....

    Amsterdam, 7/18-7/23

(sorry, the publishing of this is a way after the actual trip)

Hello All - it's been awhile since I've added my commentary, so I know I'm overdue.  I was inspired to keep my blogging experience alive while at breakfast today in our hotel.  it wasn't just b/c I was putting food in my belly (which inspires me to do a lot), it was b/c I felt alive.  Let me take a step back and fill you in on what I mean.....b/c there were so many different stories to tell, I broke them up in different chapters:

    Getting out of New Dehli
we arrived in AMS (from New Dehli) on 7/18 at about 6am local time.  Boy were we beat, after a 9 hour flight, and almost missing our flight.  I have never been so stressed before boarding a flight.  we gave ourselves at least 2 hours at the airport for everything (checking in, security, etc), but still found ourselves (literally) running to catch the flight.  not sure if it was just the airline (nwa/klm), but everything was slow (waiting in lines).  first of all, there were 3 separate lines (to get our boarding passes and check bags, immigration, and then security) which didn't seem to make sense.  after at least 1.5 hours of the first 2 lines, which had 30 min to go through security.  enough time you say?....yeah, right, this line snaked around like the line for the first star wars on opening night.  there was NO WAY we would make it through in time.  I even asked an employee if we would make it, and she said yes.  nishi and I were thinking the same time crunch and thank god she asked another employee who allowed us to go to the front of the line b/c of our flight fast approaching.

we then made some great time, and had about 15 min left to go through the security machines.  we made it through in about 5 minutes, approached the gate, and I got stopped b/c one of my carry-ons was not stamped by security (each carry on gets stamped when you go through the security line, but one of my bags were forgotten by the security guy).  so what did that mean?, I had to go back and get it stamped.  with only about 5 min left, I knew I had no time.  fortunately, a different employee gave me a tip and said I could stuff my unstamped carry-on (fanny pac) in my back pack and be good to go.  that worked, and we made it on time.....wheww!

Arriving in Amsterdam: what a great experience.  We were there for a toal of 5 days, and we tried to make the most of it.  here's a recap:
    • Unfortunately for Nishi, I was under the weather for the first couple of days.  Can we say "Montezuma's Revenge"?....Yep, I got it.  My poor wife, was my nurse for those days and put up with me as I know I was not an easy patient.
    • Once "we" got healthy, it was finally time to be tourists in the beautiful city of Amsterdam.  We looked at a map, and plotted out the things that we had in our mind, what was on the map, and saved room for some spontaneity (see "coffee shops" below).  One of things was walking through the city and noticing how many people were either walking, on cruiser bikes, trains, buses, or motor bikes.
    • Canal Tours: it was really cool, we road in a motor boat that took through the famous canals of Amsterdam.  For those that don't know, Amsterdam is built on stilts.  Lots of history and amazing architecture.  Absolutely impressive the amount of engineering and innovation to create such a beautiful city.
    • Anne Frank House: when in Amsterdam, you gotta visit the AFH.  The line was so long that we just took pictures from the outside.  Still good times and felt we experienced it enough...Smile
    • Red Light District, "Coffee Shops": the famous RLD.....I'll be honest coming from a guy, it wasn't that great, it was what it was (I'll just leave it at that for this crowd).  Now, the "Coffee Shops" on the otherhand....wow, for those that have never been to Amsterdam, I'll just say that they don't just serve coffee there....they have other items on the menu of the organic variety.  Good times....Open-mouthed

What have we been up to?.....

First of all, we know we have been out of pocket.  Guess that's what happens when life flies so fast.

So for those wondering, here's the high level update (it's actually amazing just thinking about all of this as I'm typing)....

    • We're expecting a baby!  That's right, the stork is making a visit to our house!  We are so excited and happy!  Admittedly, a little scary of this new responsibility, but we feel very fortunate to have each other and we look forward to raising "Baby Mads".  We just started the 2nd tri-mester and "Baby Mads" and Baby's Mama are doing well and healthy.  We plan to deliver the baby at the U of Washington Medical Center (go Dawgs!....for those that don't know, both Nishi and I are alumni of the U of W).
    • We're moving!:  We sold and have moved out of our place in Shoreline, and temporarily living with the Kamran family (who are so gracious to allow us to stay w/ them).  We are actively looking for a new place and feel that the timing is great w/ the market favorable towards a buyer (and, don't want to wear out our welcome at the Kamran's).....
    • Birthdays!  Nishi's birthday was a few months ago, on 11/3 (she's a Scorpio).  We had a great celebration - locally with family and just her and I.  My birthday was just recently, on 2/26 (I'm a Pisces).  I was sprinkled with so much love from both sides of the families, friends who greeted me the day of and throughout this week.  In addition to the love and gifts from Nishi, she also surprised me with an overnight stay at the Edgewater Hotel!  It was such a great time.  It was also where we stayed the night of our wedding...Smile.  <Uso's Birthday is next - it's on April Fool's Day (he's a Aries).

Just a few things that have been keeping us busy.

Thanks to our family, friends for all your love and support - we LOVE YOU ALL!  We look forward to catching up with you all in the near future.  In the meantime, we hope to be more fluid with the blog posts.
